I look forward to holiday recipes and of course baking every year and this year I made it much easier on myself by shopping at Walmart for our cupcakes! We went to our local Walmart to purchase M&M’s® White Peppermint, M&M’s® Hot Chocolate, M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate, Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Cake Mix and a gallon of milk! Milk is essential when it comes to baked goods, don’t you agree? 
When you purchase 2 bags of M&M’s® at Walmart (9.4 oz bags or larger) and up to a gallon of milk will be donated to The Great American Milk Drive.
Milk is a staple in most households, unfortunately it’s not typically donated item. Many hungry children and families cannot afford food so they look to local food banks and most food banks only have non-perishables. Milk is packed with protein and essential nutrients. My family loves cupcakes and M&M’s® – so this simple M&M’s® Surprise Cupcakes with Pillsbury™ Funfetti® recipe is a absolute must make!
I like to make a cake mix my own, rather than following from the back of the box. You can sometimes get a few more cupcakes this way too! I don’t like half filled cupcakes, all must be overflowing! I love a filled cupcake that is big enough for all the toppings and fillings I have planned for it.
- 1 Box Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Cake Mix
- 1 Stick of Butter, melted
- 1 Cup Water
- 1 Tablespoon fresh Lemon Juice (lightens up the sweetness)
- ½ Cup Self Rising Flour
- 3 Large Eggs
- --- Topping and filling ---
- Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Vanilla Flavored Frosting
- Assorted Holiday M&M's®
- Put all of the ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix until combined
- Place into a muffin tin with cupcake liners and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Cool cupcakes and cut out a deep circle.
- Fill the empty hole with M&M's® and then cut off some of the cupcake top you cut out.
- Patch the hole with the cupcake top and start icing.
- Sprinkle with holiday sprinkles that are with the frosting.
- Top each cupcake with a single M&M's® candy.
I used two different cupcake liners so I could make the M&M’s® filling less confusing. The dark brown were M&M’s® Hot Chocolate & M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate. While the white had M&M’s® White Peppermint and M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate. So yummy and everyone loves a sweet surprise inside a sweet!
